Vernon Herald, aged 60, of Booneville, Kentucky, passed away on February 24, 2026. Born on August 6, 1965, in Irvine, Kentucky, Vernon was the beloved son of the late Verlon Sr. and Geraldine Baker Herald.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mabel Ritchie Herald of Beattyville, Kentucky. Vernon was a loving father to two daughters, Mrs. Melissa Young of Booneville, Kentucky, and Mrs. Crystal Arnett of Salyersville, Kentucky. He also leaves behind four step-children: Mr. David Glenn Smith and Miss Tammy Smith, both of Booneville, Kentucky, and Mr. Benjamin Adkins and Ms. Tanya Adkins, both of Salyersville, Kentucky.
Vernon was a proud grandfather to Mr. Travis 'Graci Green' Young of Booneville, Kentucky, and Mr. Zach 'Candice' Marshall of Beattyville, Kentucky, and a great-grandfather to Quenton Marshall and Raelynn Marshall, both from Beattyville, Kentucky. He is also survived by his brother, Mr. Verlon Jr. Herald of Booneville, Kentucky, and two sisters, Mrs. Brenda McDaniel and Mrs. Barbara Bowling, both of Booneville, Kentucky. His extended family includes a brother-in-law, Mr. Rex Mosley of Jackson, Kentucky, four nephews, Mr. Shawn Herald, Mr. Shane Mosley, Mr. Jerrod Bowling, Mr. Justin Bowling, and a niece, Mrs. Kristen Moore.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Verlon Herald Sr. and Geraldine Baker Herald, his grandparents, Paul & Eva Smith Baker and Albert & Anna Lee Riley Herald, a niece, Brandon Eva Herald, and uncles James Baker, Irvine Baker, Wilson Baker, and Lester Baker.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Searcy and Strong Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm with Brother Cecil Howard officiating. Burial will take place at the Baker Family Cemetery in Booneville, Kentucky.
