Linda Sue Young, 80, of Booneville, Kentucky passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Advent Health Hospital in Manchester, Kentucky following a long illness.
Linda was born on May 13, 1946, in Grants Lick, Kentucky. She was the beloved daughter of late Douglas C. and Bessie Williams Shoemaker. Linda was the widow of Wallace Courtney Young. Above all she was a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-mother. Linda will be remembered and deeply missed by her family and friends.
Linda retired from the Owsley County Food Service Program, where she dedicated her efforts with care and commitment. As a faithful servant of the Lord, her life was a living testimony of His love. She remained an active member of the Fountainhead Baptist Church as long as health permitted.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Angie “Dan” Marshall of Booneville, Kentucky, and her son, Mr. Kirk “Donna” Shoemaker of Booneville, Kentucky. She took immense pride and joy in her grandchildren: Dwayne “Lindsey” Shoemaker, Abby “Steven” Gabbard, Sajen “Cody” Trent, Chelsea “Stephen” Marshall, Makala Marshall, Alana Marshall, and Paisley Marshall. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren—Breanna “Josh” Cox, Jordan and Sadie Shoemaker, Sullivan and Shepherd Gabbard, Allie, Ava, and Addy Trent, Cole and Kane Marshall—and her great-great-grandchild, Sarah Cox. Linda is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Margaret Maxwell of Butler, Kentucky, along with several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who cherished her presence.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Douglas C. and Bessie Williams Shoemaker; her husband, Wallace C. Young; three brothers, James and Bill Woodyard, and Douglas Jr. Shoemaker; and one sister, Eulta Jewell.
