Obituary

Gary Lynn Ross, 75, of Jackson, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026, following a long illness. His journey began on January 31, 1951, in Owsley County, Kentucky, born to Bige and Eva Katherine Ross Marshall. From his earliest years, Gary’s life was marked by steadfast commitment—to his family, his community, and his service.

A proud veteran, Gary served his country in the Air Force, an experience that shaped his disciplined and resilient character. After his military service, Gary dedicated his career to the field of construction.

As a member of the Lee County Church of Christ, he found comfort, fellowship, and purpose, cherishing the community and strength that his church family provided.

Gary’s legacy lives on through his son, Christopher Ross of Florida. He is also survived by two nephews, Dustin Barrett of Booneville, Kentucky, and Travis Barrett of Corbin, Kentucky. His extended family includes cousins: Lonnie “Wilma” Ross of East Bernstadt, Kentucky; Gayle “Don” Hensley of Hazard, Kentucky; and Janet VanWinkle of Richmond, Kentucky. Each of them holds memories and connections with Gary that will endure.

He was preceded in death by his devoted parents; his beloved son, Cary Ross; and his sister, Jennifer Barrett. Their memories are cherished and their presence remembered fondly by all who loved Gary.

Family and friends are invited to honor Gary’s life on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Searcy & Strong Funeral Home, located at 1694 Old Kentucky 11, Booneville, Kentucky. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Brother Travis Ross. Following the service, Gary will be laid to rest in the Ross Cemetery at Levi, Kentucky.
